It is often used alongside Naskh for Pashto when writing Kashmiri, Punjabi, or Urdu. Poetry is the only use of it in Persian. It was historically used for Ottoman Turkish writing where it was called tâlik[3] (again, not to be confused with the Persian talq style; to distinguish the two, Ottomans called the Persian style talq-i qadim, "old talq").
Nastallq is the core script of post-Sassanid Persian writing, and its cultural influence extends beyond the area under its influence. Iranian languages (Western Persian, Azeri, Balochi, Kurdi, Luri, etc.), Afghan languages (Dari, Pashto, Uzbek, Turkmen, etc. ), Pakistani languages (Punjabi, Urdu, Kashmiri, Saraiki, etc. ), and the Turkic Uyghur languages of the Chinese province of Xinjiang, all depend on Nastaʿlīq. This style was used by Ottoman calligraphers who developed Diwani (divani) and Ruqah (rk'a) styles using it.
Arabic calligraphy Nasta'lq is known for its fluidity. The verticals are short with no serifs, and the horizontals are long. A piece of trimmed reed with a tip measuring 5-10 mm (0.2–0.4 in) is used to write it, along with carbon ink, called davat. Ink can be absorbed better with a split nib on a qalam.
