If you use this app, we won't need to receive your identity document via mail.
Can the app be used by any kind of user?
In order to qualify, you must either be a UK resident or one of the following:
Have a Swiss nationality or be a member of the European Economic Area (EEA)
If you are not a national of an EEA or Swiss country, you have a family member who is
If you are not an EEA or Swiss national, you must have a biometric residence card or permit issued by the UK (if you are in the UK). If you do not have one, you will need to apply by mail.
Getting started
You will need the following:
- Bring your passport or national identity card if you are an EEA or Swiss citizen
- You will need your biometric residence card or permit if you do not have a family member who is an EEA or Swiss national.
- You should take a good-quality photo of yourself in well-lit conditions
- You can still use this app with a national identity card without a biometric chip, but you will need to mail it to us.

- You can take a picture of your document by clicking here
- Your phone can read the chip in your document
- Scan your face with your phone
- Take a picture of yourself for your digital status
The next step is as follows
The app is the only way to confirm your identity. The remainder of your application must be completed online separately. You'll be able to complete your application once you've finished using the app.
